The Death Arrow of Azincourt – A new Sculpture from O.H. Boyd
A brand new sculpture has just been completed by O.H. Boyd and is now available to purchase. He has recently returned from a week in Azincourt, displaying the first life-size sculpture of an English Archer, which will form a triptych of three life size figures when it has been completed.
Barton-on-Humber Shipyard Studio
The plan is for it to be displayed in the Museum on the side of the Battlefield, as soon as the remaining 2 figures of the triptych are completed. While the second Archer’s figure is being created in his studio in Barton-on-Humber in the Barton Shipyard, on the banks of the Humber and overlooking the dramatic Humber Bridge, OH Boyd has created this small table-top size representation of the first figure, showing the head and hand at full draw, just as the arrow of death is loosed across the battlefield, on route to its target.
The Drama of Azincourt captured in Sculpture
It makes a dramatic statement and has been mounted on a stainless steel stand representative of the shape of the original Azincourt battlefield. This is an artist who loves to work in Wood and is known worldwide for the high standard of research, detail and realism in each piece.
Previous Royal Commission
His most important commission was carving the Imperial Crown for the top of the Diamond Jubilee State Coach in English heart of oak timber specially donated from HMS Victory by the Admiralty. This completed sculpture was then covered with gold – yes real gold! and now adorns the top of Her Majesty’s Royal Carriage. Look out for it at the forthcoming Royal Wedding!
