Brigg arts festival logoThis artist lives and works in Barton upon Humber, with a riverside studio overlooking the Humber Bridge. His work is characterised by monumental size, extensive research and painstaking attention to detail.

OH Boyd is known locally for carving the gilded Angel that graces the outside of the venue, The Angel Hotel in Brigg.

His commissions appear in major collections including carving the Imperial Crown for HM Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee State Gold Coach and he is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers and Freeman of the City of London.

Portrait Bust of the Harrison Scholar Andrew King

The main exhibit at Brigg, will be a portrait bust carved in lime wood of the Harrison scholar Andrew King. This work is 1 1/2 times life-size and is an accurate portrayal of the man who is the world’s leading expert on John Harrison’s wooden clocks.

Hidden Messages within the Carving

The attitude is one of ponderous reflective contemplation with cryptic messages contained within. Andrew King was the expert advisor on clocks for the BAFTA winning award film, “Longitude “and wears the stock he wore when he briefly appeared in it. The stock is carved to represent a constant stream of knowledge emanating from him.

His extended arm, dressed in the Harrison shirt from the “Longitude” sculpture in the Dennis collection, holds a Harrison compass. He is something of a dandy and at first glance the work looks as though he is admiring himself in a hand mirror, which is inclined to catch a star that is reflected into, and carved into, the pupil of his eye. His hair is carved as stylised question marks to reflect his enquiring mind, representing the continuous circle of enquiry and knowledge.

This piece is available for immediate purchase, or for hire for Conferences and Events and would make a stunning feature in a Country home, Company Boardroom, or Hotel Reception area.

Longer term leases and invitations to exhibit are also invited. Contact Artist Agent on Email: ohb@whizzywords.com .

Mixed Media Portraits

Two of his mixed media portraits featuring eyes that have witnessed important events will be on display and of course, available for purchase. The complete collection of these astonishing and evocative portraits will feature in a forthcoming major exhibition soon.

Two drawings highlight intriguing eyes that will captivate and hold the viewer. (Mixed media) The final piece is a drawing of a nymph rejecting her star. (India Ink)

All three will be available to purchase at the Arts Festival, and Portrait or carving Commissions are always welcomed by this multi-talented Artist and Woodcarver.
