The highlight of OH Boyds career was when he was asked to carve the imperial crown for the new Diamond Jubilee State Coach by Jim Frecklington, Royal Coachbuilder.

It was carved in Oak released from HMS Victory and arranged by Sally Tyrrell of the Mary Rose Trust. Technically and mechanically it presented certain difficulties which had to be addressed, the centre portion of the crown is hollowed and lined with a copper sheath from the ship, this contains surveillance equipment, all being gilded.

The coach was first used for the state opening of Parliament in 2014 and OH Boyd was proud to have been invited to the Palace for the event, followed by a reception at the Royal Mews. He was presented as a Freeman of the City of London.
